Connect two devices with mixed port settings

Issue:
Occasionally it may be required to connect two devices with different serial settings that cannot be modified. For example you may need to connect a Cash register in 7-bit data mode to a Video Server in 8-bit data mode.
Resolution:
It is possible to get around this issue by utilizing Data Connect mode in our Ether-Serial Line of products.
In Data Connect Mode the two ESL devices act as a virtual tunnel passing all data received from one end of the tunnel to the other side via a raw tcp/ip socket. However since a tcp/ip connection isn’t bound by the same restrictions as a serial connection it is possible to have the serial connection on either side of the tunnel set to different settings.
To achieve this both ESL devices will need to be in Data Connect Mode and each device will need to specify the other device as a target; this can be done via the embedded webpage, or the Lava Manager.
Once the connection has been configured on each end it is then possible to configure the serial port interface to any set of settings, but the important thing to note is that the settings on either side aren’t required to be matched.
