Issue:
For older ESL devices it maybe required to upgrade the embedded firmware to the latest released version.
Resolution:
To upgrade the ESL download the Firmware and Manager package from our website (link for 2000/XP, link for 7/2008) and extract its contents to a folder.
Note: For every firmware release Lava packages both the firmware and Lava Manager together to ensure maximum stability when using the ESL. This is why when upgrading the firmware its best to also reinstall the Manager and reactivate the ports on any system that is using the ESL. Also, upgrading the firmware of the ESL will reset the device to its factory default settings, therefore if you require the ESL be configured on a specific IP Address it would be wise to make a note of any settings you wish to retain so you can reconfigure the ESL once the firmware upgrade has been completed.
Firmware Upgrade
- Within the contents of the downloaded zip file there will be a file titled “upgradeYYYY-MM-DD.zip”, double click on this file and extract its contents to a folder.
- Within this directory there will be two files one will be a .upg file and the other will be an executable (upgrade.exe).
- Double click on upgrade.exe
- You will be prompted to select an Upgrade file. Navigate to and select the .upg file, and click open
- From there you will be provided with a list of all the ESL found on the network. Select the ESL device you wish to upgrade and click upgrade
- Once the upgrade has completed you will receive a confirmation message that the upgrade completed successfully
- Note: The ESL can only be upgraded within a LAN or via a crossover cable.
Manager Update
- Within the contents of the downloaded zip file there will be a file titled “installYYY-MM-DD.zip”, double click on this file and extract its contents to a folder.
- Within this folder there will be an executable file (setup.exe). Double click on this file.
- Setup through the installation procedure to reinstall the Lava Manager.
- After installation run the Lava Manager.
- Within the Lava Manger find the ESL device under “Ether Links Near Me” and right click on the device.
- From the context menu select “Deactivate All”, this will remove the ESL COM port from the system. You will get a confirmation message that the Com Port(s) has been removed.
- Right click on the device again and select “Activate All”, this will reactivate all ports on the ESL
